In today’s world a person needs a reliable form of transportation. Nowadays, that is becoming more and more of a reality with the vehicle market becoming very competitive. Back in the day you would buy a car for a certain price and you got what you bought but not with any added features. In today’s market you can buy a compact high-performance car for little price and a lot of amazing features that will make you happy you bought the car.

High-performance compact cars typically have front wheel drive, and an engine that runs on 4 different cyclinders. If you are currently in the market looking for a high-performance compact car these cars usually include coupes, sedans and hatchbacks. They are not limited to that though.

Compact high-performance cars are really popular over in japan and europe right now because of their high quality and they are only getting better! But if you think that means they are not as popular in the United states think again. Back in the 90′s they were losing popularity in the US market. But once again they are back and becoming more and more driven in the US.

Goes to show, people know quality!

For many of today’s younger generation muscle cars are admired and respected, but simply are not practical. The high costs involved with building them is often not within reach of somebody just getting into the sport. Another fact is the cost of driving them on a daily basis, weekend driving is one thing, but daily driving is another.

Availability of the many types of compact cars means that just about anyone looking to find the right starter vehicle, can often do so within the area that they live, and within the budget they have to work with.

With so many models to choose from, which one is best to create a tuner with? That’s really a matter of taste and style, not to mention budget. How fast to do you wish to go? Once you have determined that then you can begin to make your choice.

Once you have gotten your vehicle you can now begin to choose the modifications and parts that will help get you there. Go to your local bookstore and find a magazine that carries a complete line of high-performance compact car parts. A guide for every budget is likely to be found. This is the best way to find everything you need from one source.

As one of our favorite publications has ceased publication, Sport Compact Car Magazine, having filled a particular niche for many readers such as yours truly over the years, from 1988 to its final issue in March of 2009 to be exact, there is quite frankly no individual publication in print that can satisfy the full range of interests for sport compact enthusiasts, particularly those with an interest in modifications on such cars to optimize speed and performance. Though admittedly the traditional magazine is a dying medium, over the past year we have perused alternatives still in print the world over, with these titles being the best bets for some leisurely reading, if you can get your hands on an issue.Modified Magazine Especially adept at “how-to” articles ranging in everything from advanced tuning options to engine builds. Also a solid read for beginners those looking to learn more about high performance automobiles and engine capability, Modified is perhaps the most all-inclusive such magazine in stands today.Modified Motor Magazine Not to be confused the Florida based outfit above, Modified Motor Magazine is actually an Irish publication. Former readers of Sport Compact Car will undoubtedly appreciate the highly technical approach, Modified Motor writers take in their articles, but perhaps lending more to savvy veterans than start-up hobbyists.Max Power Less exclusive to sport compact cars, rather open-minded to any four-wheeled fast moving vehicle, Max Power is the original bad boy car performance magazine. Though these Brits are frowned upon by many powers that be, lead-footed motorists have been taking notes and breaking limits (both regulatory signage and perceived possibilities) for nearly 2 decades. And don’t forget to check out the famous Max Power girls, making the magazine an equally satisfying buy for those of you who stumbled onto this site by chance and don’t really even like cars The articles are really just icing on the cake. And for people out there just looking to buy a car, not really concerned with racing, engine specs or pavement pealing modifications, a quick thumb through Consumer Reports is always recommended…

Honestly, you can tell a lot about a person by what they drive. Not necessarily their level of wealth, although it would probably be fair to assume that most people with a Maserati in the garage enjoy a higher level of financial security, but what a person drives can be very indicative of personality. Whether it’s a minivan, truck, convertible or what-have-you, most vehicles either fairly or unfairly come with a stereotype. Minivans, for example, are made for soccer moms, if you were to believe the stereotype, trucks for blue collar workers and convertibles for both attractive young females and middle aged men stuck in mid-life crises. Sometimes these stereotypes hold true, while other times they couldn’t be further off-base. Still, not only does the type of car you drive project an image, it can truly reflect what you value in your possessions. All of this raises the question, “what kind of person does it take to drive a sports car, compact car or sports compact car?”Sports cars feed into a need for speed and top performance, even if at times putting safety or practicality on the backburner. This is can at times be an effort to add to a reputation, though most sports car owners have a genuine interest in the more technical aspects of driving and car operation/maintenance. While many owners may never get the chance to actually test their car at its top speed, the sheer capability move at warp speeds is enough of an allure.Compact cars, on the other hand, can often cater to more care-free owners, able to spontaneously pick up and go wherever on minimal gas money, and with little possessions to bring in tow. It is a great buy for very practical owners who enjoy saving money on their day-to-day driving and recognize that they don’t need the additional space that a larger car might provide.Sports compacts can be difficult to exclusively classify, with many sports cars and compact cars towing the line between the two. Ideally, a sports compact car combines the reliability and practicality of a compact with the impressive on-road capabilities of a sports car, a recommended purchase for buyers who like to live a little on the edge on Friday and Saturday, but realize they have things to do and places to be throughout the week.

While the inherent advantage of driving a smaller car is apparent, at times there can be a stigma surrounding smaller compact cars as opposed to full-sized sedans. Certainly there are a lot of great cars out there with a big more room to maneuver for passengers, but a small car gives you more room to maneuver on the road. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with buying a full-size; however, it should be equally acceptable to purchase a smaller car by choice, not as a means of fiscal responsibility. Here is a look at a few higher end small cars that will leave onlookers too busy gawking in envy to size up your car.

BMW 1-Series (MSRP base: 29,250) The 1-Series is, after all, a BMW, so nothing less than superior quality should be expected. Where else can you find such a small car capable of 300 horsepower while still wrapped in impressively presented package? The 1-series is an exquisite mix of driving capability and a flair for the finer things in life. It won’t blow you away with bells and whistles, but this car stays true to the BMW name it that it is clean cut, elegant and drives like a dream.

Audi A3 Hatchback (MSRP base: 27,270) Combining a sports car-esque performance with the added space of a hatchback, the Audi A3 delivers on seemingly every front. The speed, acceleration and handle of the car may be matched by other small cars in its class (doubtfully outdone), though few are able to provide the same driving experience complete with the same level of luxurious amenities.

Acura TSX (MSRP base: 29,310) Arguably the most polarizing car around among comparable small luxury models, no one is disputing the TSX’s remarkable interior design, functionality and first class feel. The exterior on the other hand is either met with immediate praise or disgust. A very solid performing car, perhaps the TSX is a model you have to see for yourself before forming your own opinion.

Even if you can’t afford to live in the lap of luxury, which let’s face it, most simply cannot, it’s hard to match the awe-inspiring feel that comes from driving a luxury sports car. Despite what financial advisors and forecasters may recommend, thousands of Americans spend top dollar on some of the finest sports vehicles manufacturers have to offer, raising the bar each year with a heightened levels of reliability, performance and aesthetic appeal. Here is a look at smartest buys on the market, assuming you fathom that spending such vast sums of money on a car can indeed be a wise investment.

Mercedes-Benz SL (MSRP base: 98,500) The Benz SL may not top the list if performance exclusively controlled the owner experience of a sports car, but that’s not to say the SL can’t perform. Each passing generation of SL has seen significant improvement, rising up through the ranks of the sports car world over the past several years. It’s curb appeal is unmatched, and little changes once you sit behind the wheel. The height of both comfort and luxury, the SL mixes an other-worldly combination of an strong yet attractive exterior, adept handling, engine performance and comfort.

Porsche 911 Carerra (MSRP base: 77,800) As far as pure sports cars go, perhaps the Porsche Carrera is second to none. The Carrera can deliver on-road a performance that is inimitable, even by the higher ranked SL. While the Carrerra is luxurious, no doubt, sporting a sleek style to boot, it does lack some of the comfort, along with a few bells and whistles that come standard on the SL.

Nissan GT-R (MSRP base: 84, 060) The Gran Turismo-Racer has made quite the splash in its relatively small 3-year sample size on the market. Like the Carrera, the GT-R performs at a higher tier than most sports cars could even. Perhaps the breaking point is the car’s exterior design, as most critics either love it or hate.

From a minimalist’s point of view, compact cars offer the most efficient use of space, not to mention a highly reduced price from say, larger sedan models. After all, unless you have kids to haul around, who really needs all that extra space? The compact car offers the perfect solution for many drivers, easier to park, easier to drive, easier to keep clean, overall just easier. Compact cars also generally get better gas mileage than their larger counterparts. Such a laundry list of advantages has led to a trend of drivers worldwide opting to go smaller. Here are a few financially friendly compact options that will make flipping the size switch seem like an even smarter idea.

Ford Fiesta Hatchback (MSRP base: 13, 320) The Ford Fiesta could not be more aptly name, after all it’s a party on the road and an all-night celebration in your wallet, throw in the 37 miles per gallon highway and the good times will be raging year round. Despite its small size, the Fiesta offers an upgrade in the cockpit as compared to most other cars in its class. In some sort of Pen and Teller worthy illusion, once you get inside the interior suddenly seems much more spacious and roomy than the car’s humble exterior might suggest. With heated seats, knee high airbags and technology friendly sync system, you’ll be hard pressed to find comparable amenities in such a small package and at a low price.

Volkswagon Golf Hatchback (MSRP base: 17, 965) As you might guess from its sporting namesake, the Golf is man’s small car (renamed from the less manly “Rabbit”). Before you write such a statement off as an oxymoron, take a look under the hood and a peek inside its luxurious cabin. While it may be pricier than some other models, once you sit behind the wheel of a Golf, you still feel as if you didn’t pay enough. Not to mention, the Golf’s hatchback trunk provides more space than its counterparts (including the Fiesta), were you to store, say for example, golf clubs. Of course, the hatchback design may be a turn-off for some buyers.

Honda Civic (MSRP base: 15,455) The Civic has earned its reputation over the years as one of the most reliable cars on the market. It also boasts top level performance and fuel economy as well. Perhaps the only issue with the Civic is a lack of cabin comfort and overall cargo storage space, however, if your end goal is functionality, then the Civic may be your best bet.

Sports cars can be an expensive fascination. Of course, almost every young man wants a sports car when he turns 16, however few can find the funding such a young age, amid parental concerns of safety and speeding. Though not quite the cash for clunker type deal you might find down at Joe’s Used Car Shack, there is still value in a certain number of sports cars that are very affordable considering what’s under the hood and their performance on the street. Here’s a look at the upper echelon of this year’s sports cars that may indeed meet a young professional’s budget, combining quality and affordability.

Mazda MX-5 Miata (MSRP base: 22,960) In a word, the Miata is fun. Like the Mexican jumping bean of sports cars, it can easily provide hours of simple amusement, stemming from such a small package. Boasting quick acceleration, agile handling, not to mention more than adequate gas mileage (22 city/28 highway), the Miata will give any aspiring sports car owner the most bang for his or her buck. Not to mention, like Rocky, the little guy keeps on plugging, receiving positive reliability ratings from most owners.

Mitsubishi Eclipse (MSRP base: 18,999) Though the Eclipse might not handle or move like a Miata, it provides the sports car look and feel and a even further reduced price, typically available brand new for prices under the 20,000 plateau. The Eclipse might not be the perfect fit for someone who really wants to show off their sports car’s capabilities, but for those who want are in it more for a cool look or image, perhaps the Eclipse is your best bet.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe (MSRP base: 22,661) Still a relative newcomer to the U.S. market (with the 2010 models first arriving in 2009), what this sports car lacks it reputation it makes up for in rave reviews. While it may cost a little more than the Eclipse up front, the Genesis Coupe will save owners money in the long road with its impressive 30 miles per gallon highway. The exterior is sleek and the car significantly outperforms its price range, making it a wise buy for sports cars owners who value product more than name recognition.
